Research Project on Training Methods and Assistive Devices

A research project into overseas and local experience in arts and culture training for PWDs will be conducted under the Scheme. Reports on research findings and a Manual of Training Methods and Assistive Devices will be produced upon completion of the project. These materials will be disseminated to organizations and individuals through various channels.

 


Progress
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong have appointed to run the research project. The research team launched the project in June 2004 and have been completed on the second querter of 2008.

By taking reference to the data and information collected in the Research Project, Research report (study of the special needs), Research report (teaching methods and assistive devices) and the User manual were produced.
 
Seminar cum Workshops
The Seminar cum Workshops of the research reports and user manual was held on 22 November 2008 at the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Group in Quarry Bay. More than 150 special school teachers, arts facilitators, volunteers and social workers joined the seminar, and showed positive responses towards.

Three workshops on Touch arts, Non-verbal Theatre and Shadow Puppetry were run respectively, providing about 200 places for training the trainers. Participants were enthusiastic in learning the teaching methods, materials used, assistive devices, safety tips and special guidelines for providing relevant arts activities to persons with disabilities, and found the workshop very useful.
 
Research reports and User manual
Interested parties were welcomed to download the Research report (teaching methods and assistive devices), Research report (study of the special needs), and User Manual. With these practical reference, we aim at promoting persons with disabilites could nurture an interest in arts and cultural activities, enhance their skills, show their talents after training and facilitate their integration into society.
