School-based Arts Project

The School-based Arts Project comprises of an annual Arts Day and a Joint Special Schools Music and Arts Festival (JSSMAF) for disabled children in Special Schools, Early Education and Training Centres (EETC) and Special Child Care Centres (SCCC).

The annual Arts Day will aim at promoting interest in arts and culture amongst children with disabilities. We would encourage participation by students in Special Schools, EETC and SCCC in interest classes of painting, drawing, Chinese calligraphy, ceramic and singing, as well as mass games like dancing, characters design playground, puppet shows etc.

The JSSMAF will include a variety show and an exhibition. It will aim at providing performance opportunities for disabled students to show what they have achieved in arts and culture training, and at the same time, enhancing public awareness of the benefits of integrating disabled children in arts and cultural life, e.g. enhancing self-confidence, expression and communication skills and creativity.

  School-based Arts Project (Third Year)

The third year's School-based Arts Project was held in January 2007 to June 2008. The Project has organized the Arts Day for more than 70 special schools and special child care centres, and 20 amongst them, had been selected to join the Seed School Scheme to receive further assistance and training for arts development.

A pilot project – Artist-in-Residency Project (A.I.R) was introduced in this year’s School-based Arts Project. 3 special schools were joined the project. The A.I.R project aims not only at teaching artist skills to the students, but also involving the schools, its staff members and parents, so that in a long term, the participating schools will be able to self-generate more arts projects based on the actual needs of the students and schools.
